rest in peace squeaky

Sadly... the cat that we have been trying to domesticate was struck by a car this evening.. we mourn our little friend squeaky.. a great little cat who was only weeks away from finding a good home.
As I drove up the hill I saw him, lying on the side of the road, blood flowing down the hill.. The rest I won't describe, because I don't even want to think about it.
I pulled into the driveway and rushed out to get something to put him in, I didn't want anyone else to run over him while he was just lying out there...

Speeding is a problem in our neighborhood.. especially since we live on a blind driveway.. there is no doubt in my mind that whoever left this cat to die in the road was speeding down the hill. Below is a note I sent out to my association..

As I write this note I am in tears over the living creature that I just picked up from the middle of the hill with a shovel.
We have been trying to get a feral kitten to trust us enough so that we could eventually get him a good home.
His home will now be in our backyard.

I don't know if it was a neighbor that hit this animal and left it to die in the middle of the road.. I would like to hope that it wasn't.
But I am sending this email out as a reminder to SLOW DOWN WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING DOWN THE HILL!
the posted speed limit is 25 miles an hour. I see cars every day go WAY faster than that.
We have asked at general meetings over and over again for people to slow down and be careful because there are deer and other animals that cross the street here.

this time it was a cat.... let's hope there isn't a next time.

PLEASE SLOW DOWN.
and if you happen to hit an animal.. please take the time to move it from the middle of the road so it isn't run over multiple times.

They Just Can't Stop It (Games People Play)
( The Spinners )

Can't get no rest
Don't know how I work all day
When will I learn?
Memories get in the way
I walk around
I can't hear a sound, folks talkin' loud, but I
Don't see at all
I gotta get away, gotta get away, I don't

Know where to go
It's hopeless so
I guess I'll leave it alone well I
Spent all my day
Fixin' up to go somewhere
Thought I was late
And I found she wasn't there
I guess I'll find
Love, peace of mind, some other time, but I
Still have today
I gotta get away, gotta get away, I don't
Know where to go
It's hopeless so
I guess I'll leave it alone

Games people play
Night or day they're just not matchin'
What they should do
Keeps me feelin' blue

Been down too long
Right, wrong, they just can't stop it
Spendin' all day
Thinking just of you

Twelve forty-five
Headed for the subway home
I took my time
'Cause I felt so all alone

Not far away
I heard a funny sound, took a look around, and I
Could see her face
Smilin' as she came, callin' out my name, so I
Know where to go
We'll take it slow
Guess I'll call it a day

Games people play
Night or day they're just not matchin'
What they should do
Keeps me feelin' blue
Games people play.....

HAIR!

So,
saturday was errand day.. got some memory for my new computer and did the one thing I have been putting off for over a month!
HAIRCUT!!!!
My hair was SO long.. people were making comments about its length.. I mean serious rock and roller big hair type long!
So, with picture in hand, off to the hair cuttery I went!
two pairs of shears and about 4 inches later I have a new summer "do"!
this is what was left of my hair on the cutting room floor!

of course, it just looked so funny there on the floor.. almost like a full head of hair for someone else.. I'm sure it would have made a nice wig for someone, but it was a few inches short for me to be able to donate it.. here's what I imagined as I looked at it there.

pay it forward

at the risk of this being a self serving post.. I really wanted to share these pictures but there is a story behind them and why I got them..

Yesterday, as I was coming out of the CVS after getting a script filled, I spotted a check register lying on the ground. You know the kind where you write the check and it makes a carbon copy of it right there in the book? I picked it up, there wasn't really any identifying information on it, no name, no address, no phone, no bank name.. nuthin.. but it was meticulously kept. Checks had been written to doctor's offices, birthday gifts, the IRS for 2007, and a number of checks written to a local church.
I thought for half a second about just taking it into the CVS and leaving it there in case the person came back looking for it. But then I figured they would probably just toss it in the trash. So, I took it home. As I was looking at it, I realized that the part of the check where you sign your name was partially blacked out, but if I looked at it in a certai light, I could partially make out the last name.
So, when I got home, I called the church bookkeeping office and explained that I thought that the person who lost the checkbook was a parishioner. The woman at the church recognized the name and within 10 minutes the owner of the book called me.
She was so ecstatic that someone had found it and kept thanking over and over.
Now, I don't know about you, but personally I feel like if the same thing happened to me, I would want someone to return my property. And that's pretty much how I go through life.. the golden rule..
We made arrangements for her to come by my office to pick up her register, though I offered to bring it to her.
fast forward to this morning..she called me early to tell me that it was going to be a little later than she had planned when she was going to be able to come by.. no problem I told her, I would be there till late. She again thanked me over and over and I just responded, "thank my mama ma'am, my mama raised me right" and she responded
she surely did.. thank you again so very much"
I got to work and am immediately grabbed by a co-worker telling me "you have beautiful flowers in the lobby"!
In my head I'm wondering why butter would send me flowers.. not my birthday, not an anniversary.. just a wednesday..

As you can see, the flowers are absolutely beautiful. Gerber daisies, roses, waxflower and hydrangea.. stunning. I open the card and realize that they aren't from butter at all.. but from the woman whose register I found.
the card read
"Thank you ever so much you are a very special person"
I got a little teary. I didn't pick up the register for a reward, or for anything really other than to do the right thing.
It was a very sweet thing for this elderly lady to do, and started my day on such an uplifting bright spot.
What a really nice way to start a day....
hope yours starts just a nicely tomorrow!!!
